Chiropractic Care Beats Medication for Neck Pain
In this months issue of Annals of Internal Medicine new research was published showing Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT) or in layman’s terms a chiropractic adjustment and exercise was more effective in relieving neck pain than than medication. The participants of this study were divided into three groups: an adjustment by a Doctor of Chiropractic group, over the counter pain relievers, and narcotics and muscle relaxants.
After 12 weeks, 57% of those who were adjusted and 48% of those who exercised reported at least a 75% reduction in pain as compared to 33 % of the medication groups.
After 1 year approximately 53% of the chiropractic group still reported at least a 75% reduction in pain while the medication groups reduced to 38%.
